Good editing can be the difference between an ordinary book and a masterpiece.
Have you ever tried to read a book that was so poorly edited as to be unreadable? Do you see how the word “illegible” might have been used in the previous sentence, but would have communicated a different meaning?
Editing encompasses more than just proofreading. It includes suggesting how something might be expressed more clearly or explained better. Or how a sentence structure might be changed so that the reader doesn’t stumble over it.
There many things a spellchecker won’t catch.
I only edit books on subjects with which I have both familiarity and interest. That maximizes my effectiveness at being more than just a proofreader. Those subject areas include
